I was library staff for 22 years before I got a librarian job. I hesitated to get my degree for a very long time because of these very issues, I saw my librarian friends go through what I am going through now. Most of them didn't get tenure, they moved on to places with a different system and probably ended up happier. But they learned what they could where they were and that is what I am doing now. The difference is I probably won't continue as a librarian. But then again, I hate to close a door until I am sure I am safely in the next room.Dianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00807205757095971212noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2636108676300296664.post-31427943537743654152010-11-21T16:27:05.589-05:002010-11-21T16:27:05.589-05:00That whole business about theory was one of the re...That whole business about theory was one of the reasons I dropped out of the library science program a few years ago. I immediately got turned off by the hierarchy of degree librarians and what one article referred to as "mere technicians", ie. the folks who do the brunt of the work in a library from shelving to managing the info desk.

Anyway, hang in there until you're ready to transition. And if you do get let go sooner than you hope, take it as a blessing in disguise and a push off the diving board, so to speak.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
